Happy New Year! Cheers to 2013!

Happy New Year!

We hope everyone has a wonderful time celebrating 2012 with your goldens! Remember to keep your pups safe and inside at night – fireworks, firecrackers, etc. can spook them and cause them to flee! Also, be sure to turn on a TV or two to distract them.

It’s been an incredible year for our family – as we welcomed a (two-legged) baby into our family! Our two goldens have been wonderful with her – Goldens are truly the perfect family dog!

What was your favorite memory from 2012? What are you looking forward to in 2013?

Golden Retriever Therapy Dogs Comfort Newtown, CT

The love of a pet is needed most during times of grief – so we loved hearing that Golden Retriever Therapy Dogs visited the town of Newtown, CT to comfort those affected by the horrific shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The Hudson Valley Golden Retriever Club & the K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry are just a few of the many pet support teams that have visited the community, providing a much needed smile and cuddly comfort to the children and families.

For stories, photos and videos on these wonderful pups and the comfort they are providing – please visit the links below:

New York Daily News – “Comfort Dogs Help Ease Pain of Mourning Newtown Community”

The Today Show – Therapy Dogs are “Furry Counselors for Newtown Community”

We also encourage everyone to join Ann Curry’s #20Acts & #26Acts of kindness to honor the Sandy Hook Victims – maybe your Goldens can help? You can also donate to the Golden Therapy teams listed above.

..and we’re back!

We apologize for the long delay in posts – it’s been a busy year for our family as we are expecting our first baby within the next few weeks! We look forward to giving our four-legged children a new little (two-legged) sibling!

Now onto current events.. it’s hard to avoid all of the political drama going on. Regardless of which party you support, I think we can all agree that we’ll be happy when this election is finally over! If this guy ran – he’d get our vote! What about you? 🙂

Stay tuned for updates on how our goldens react to their new sister! Do you have any tips to share?

Happy 4th of July!!

Happy 4th of July to you and your goldens!

While it’s fun to have your pup outside enjoying the celebration – please, please, please be careful and keep your dogs inside during the fireworks show! Even the calmest of dogs can bet spooked and run away from the sound of fireworks (sadly, we learned this lesson the hard way – read about our scary experience here). July 5th is the busiest day of the year for animal shelters!

Have a wonderful celebration everyone! God bless America and those who have served and continue to serve to protect our freedom!

Bring your pup to work

Companies allowing employees to bring their dogs to work is becoming increasingly popular -for a good reason. Studies show that having a dog in your office reduces stress, improves productivity, and can lead to more social, fun meetings with your clients.

Since both Brad and I work from home (when we are not out and about for sales calls or meetings), we are blessed to work on our computers with a pup under our desk. As a matter of fact, Roxy is taking her mid-morning nap on my feet as I’m typing this..

The official “Take Your Dog To Work Day” is TODAY – June 22nd! There is even a fun website where you can share photos and tips – check it out!

Does your company allow you to bring your dog to work? If not, you should share this posting with your boss. Even President Gerald Ford worked with his Goldens in the oval office! 🙂

Happy Memorial Day Weekend

Wanted to wish you and your pups a Happy Memorial Day Weekend!! We hope you enjoy the day doing what you enjoy most with your family, friends, and puppy dogs.

Please take time to remember why we celebrate this day – and to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country’s freedom, as well as all those who have served and continue to serve. We are the land of the free because of the brave!

This is one of our all-time favorite YouTube videos – of a Golden reuniting with her mom after a long deployment in Afghanistan. Warning: this will bring tears to your eyes – so have a tissue handy!

An American Idol Golden!!

I looooooove American Idol. I look forward to it every Wednesday night! A couple of weeks ago I was so excited to learn that contestant Hollie Cavanagh has a Golden Retriever – and made sure to include him in her videos from home. Hollie has such a cute British accent – it was hard for me to understand what this beautiful pup’s name is (if you know it – please share!!). But nonetheless, he’s adorable!!

On top of Hollie being a Golden Retriever lover – she is also incredibly talented. Such a powerful voice comes out of her petite frame! I remember her from last season being so shy and timid yet having such a beautiful voice (she was eliminated before the final 24 were announced). Awesome that she came back and auditioned this year, and is now in the final 7!!

So, if you’re home tonight tune into American Idol and be sure to vote for Hollie. Although I’m sure her pup misses her dearly and would love to have her home – he’d much rather her continue on the show 🙂 Hollie I’m sure we’d all love to know – does your golden recognize you on television?

Roxy finds her golden quite handsome 🙂 She couldn’t take her eyes off the screen!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter golden lovers! I hope you all are having a fabulous weekend!

This morning the Easter Bunny came to our house and hid little peanut butter treats all over the backyard! Needless to say, the dogs had a great time finding them all. It’s pretty impressive how powerful their sense of smell is! Not a single treat went undiscovered – and some were very well hidden!

Enjoy the rest of this wonderful day! Here are some fun photos to make you smile 🙂

Wednesday Friendsday – Summer

Meet Summer – our Wednesday Friendsday featured golden! What a beautiful brown-eyed girl she is!

Summer is a gorgeous 8 month old Golden who lives in Klang, Malaysia! (I love that golden lovers from across the world can connect with one another!!) Summer was a birthday gift to her dog mom, Hamae, from her husband. Coincidentally, Summer was born on the day Hamae and her husband were married! Summer was just destined to be a part of their family. 🙂

Summer’s favorite treats are carrots and green apples – what a healthy puppy!

When she’s not cuddling with Hamae and her husband, she loves to play fetch with a ball. Summer also enjoys to travel! Car rides are her favorite!

Thank you Hamae for sharing these wonderful photos of Summer with us! I love this pic of the three of you – what a happy pup she is to have such awesome parents!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Wanted to wish you all and your goldens a Happy St. Patricks Day! I’m sure you’re all feeling luckier than ever that you’ve got a beautiful golden to love. Pot o’ gold? No – I’ll take a paw o’ golden 🙂

I found this adorable photo on the web.. this is 10 year old Lucky! Perfect name for his awesome outfit!

And meet PangPang! A Golden rescued thanks to the team at Project Taiwan Looks like this pup found her pot o’ gold with a loving home!

I can’t help but think Quincey has strong Irish roots with his beautiful rich red coat. In fact, Golden Retrievers came from breeding the Irish Setter with other various breeds, and it’s roots go back to starting in nearby Scotland in the mid eighteenth century (a little bit of history I pulled from Wikipedia!)

Well, to have Quincey join in the celebration of his heritage – we let him lick our Guinness pint glasses clean 🙂

Happy St. Patricks Day everyone!
