How a golden named Quincey inspired a worldwide celebration
International Golden Retriever Day was created by Kristen Shroyer in 2012 in honor of her beloved golden, Quincey. What started as a simple tribute grew into a worldwide celebration that brings together golden retriever lovers from every corner of the globe.
Quincey was born on February 3, 2007, and from the start he was the kind of dog who could light up any room. He had a way of making everyone around him smile, whether it was with his goofy antics, his gentle soul, or his unwavering love. When Quincey passed away on November 19, 2014, Kristen wanted to find a way to keep his spirit alive and celebrate the joy that golden retrievers bring to so many lives. February 3rd — Quincey’s birthday — became the perfect date.
Every year on February 3rd, golden retriever owners around the world share photos, stories, and love using the hashtag #GoldenRetrieverDay. The day has grown far beyond what Kristen ever imagined, with thousands of people celebrating their goldens and honoring those who have crossed the rainbow bridge.
This site, i heart golden retrievers, started as a WordPress blog where Kristen shared tips, stories, and resources for golden retriever owners. The content you see across these pages — the travel guides, grooming tips, nutrition advice, and product recommendations — represents years of real experience raising and loving goldens.

Whether you are here to learn, share, or simply smile at photos of goldens — welcome. This community is for you.
